Frequently asked questions

  • “We love because God first loved us.” - 1 John 4:19

Giving is a genuine response to the abundant love we have received from God.

“Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” - 2 Corinthians 9:7

Giving is voluntary and joyful because it is an expression and outpouring of our gratitude to God.

“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. STOCKS OR MUTUAL FUNDS

Make a gift of publicly traded securities to CPC and potentially save income tax and capital gains tax, too.

A gift of publicly traded securities could be right for you if:

    • You own publicly traded securities that you have owned for at least one year.

    • Some of these securities have increased in value since you bought them.

Tax benefits of contributing publicly traded securities

You can save income tax and capital gains tax when you give shares of a publicly traded security that you have owned for a year or more.

    STOCK TRANSFER INSTRUCTIONS

    * Please notify CPC at give@cpcdanville.org when the transfer is made to let us know the number of shares and ticker symbol and fund designation (e.g. General Fund).  In addition, note that it may take four to five business days from the time your broker initiates a stock transfer to CPC until the settlement date when the proceeds are credited to CPC's account and are recognized as a gift.

    DONOR ADVISED FUNDS

You can make a gift to CPC via a donor-advised fund (DAF).

    What is a DAF?

A DAF is a simple, flexible, and tax-advantageous way to make a charitable donation. DAFs allow donors to contribute funds to a charitable account and receive an immediate tax deduction and recommend grants to their chosen nonprofits over time.

    How do DAF’s work?

DAFs can be easily set up through your financial institution or a community foundation to serve as a flexible charitable giving vehicle. You initiate the designation of a single grant or a recurring grant (monthly, quarterly, or annually) to CPC through your charitable account organization. Giving through your donor-advised fund is a powerful way to help CPC.

Note: Individual situations vary, so donors should consult their financial advisors.

If you make a gift to CPC via a donor-advised fund please keep in mind that your tax receipt will be issued by the fund, not by CPC.

If you wish to make a gift toward a pledge, please be sure to notify the donor-advised fund so that we know how to record the gift as such.

    CPC's tax ID is: 94-1375814

    IRA CONTRIBUTIONS

You can make a tax-free gift with a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) from your IRA. You must be at least 70½ years old to take advantage of this opportunity and you can contribute up to $100,000 each year from your IRA account to a qualified charity.

Please check with your IRA administrator or your tax advisor for more information.

    MATCHING GIFTS

Numerous organizations provide their employees with the opportunity to contribute to charitable causes through payroll deductions, frequently matching these contributions dollar for dollar. To find out if your company has a matching gift initiative, consult your Human Resources department. CPC is recognized as a tax-exempt entity by the IRS under section 501(c)(3).
