This is a story of a tragedy that led to a renewal of a long-dormant relationship with God.

In November of 1998, my wife of 31 years, Kathy, died of a malignant brain tumor.  She was 53 years old. We had two daughters, both just out of college and we were looking forward to being empty-nesters with college expenses behind us.

When Kathy became ill with this terrible disease, we were not members of CPC, only occasional visitors but we had several friends in the church who came forward with love, support and prayer. We began to attend CPC regularly, seeking any spiritual and emotional assistance in dealing with our situation.  We were overwhelmed by the outpouring of prayers, visits and even meals from a church we had only occasionally attended.  We became closer to God than we had ever been in the past.

After Kathy passed away, I became more involved in CPC and eventually realized that God had a plan for me and for my two daughters.  I learned through some interesting experiences with social interactions that I could have a relationship with God and that I could actually recognize his guidance in my everyday life.  God’s plan for my life eventually led to my marriage to a church elder, Marsha Corbett, complete with a young stepson and a transformed relationship with CPC.
God’s plan was evident with my older daughter becoming a naturopathic doctor with a specialty in helping patients with cancer and my younger daughter following in her mother’s footsteps to become a teacher.

From a tragedy that began nearly 12 years ago, many wonderful, positive life changes have emerged thanks to God’s guidance and to the helping hand of this church and its members
