Luke for Everyone

Questions for Sermon on
October 24-25

Thank you for joining us in our study of Luke. Our prayer is that each of you will follow the weekly readings and join together with others to discuss the questions sent to you each week in this email.  Look for our emails each Monday in preparation for the upcoming sermon the following weekend. For a PDF (printable) version of the Questions click here.

Our hope is that you will see God working in your life and in others around you and you will be able to take your next step in following Jesus.

1. How is God changing your life?

2. Give an example from your life of a person who got to know you, your interests and needs in order to express the love and message of Christ to you.

OBSERVE
3. Jesus sent seventy-two disciples for their first missionary assignment- go the villages to prepare the people to receive Him well. List each verb in His instruction (both positive and negative). How does it add to your understanding of Jesus’ strategy for “the harvest”?

REFLECT
4. Why do you suppose the first words out of the disciple’s mouth are to be “peace to this house” (v. 5)?

5. Why do you think Jesus urges his followers to “stay" and “eat what is set before you” (vv. 7-8)?

6. Why does Jesus urge the focus on noticing disease and expressing care and healing for people who are suffering
(v. 9)?

7. What important perspective on the disciples’ efforts does Jesus offer in vv. 10-12?

ACT
8. In what ways are you in a similar situation to those disciples on their missionary assignment?
Can you identify people to whom God has sent you to pray “peace, to stay in relationship, to care for their hurts, and to tell them God’s kingdom is near?

9. How do Jesus’ instructions to these missionaries on first assignment help you know your next steps in following Jesus?

10. Who could you help take their next step in following Jesus?
