Luke for Everyone

Questions for Sermon on
October 31-November 1

Thank you for joining us in our study of Luke. Our prayer is that each of you will follow the weekly readings and join together with others to discuss the questions sent to you each week in this email.  Look for our emails each Monday in preparation for the upcoming sermon the following weekend. For a PDF (printable) version of the Questions click here.

Our hope is that you will see God working in your life and in others around you and you will be able to take your next step in following Jesus.

1. How is God changing your life?

2. In your neighborhood, who is most neighborly?

OBSERVE
3. Describe the actions of the people mentioned in this drama: (An expert in the law, Jesus, a man, robbers, a priest, a Levite, a Samaritan, the innkeeper).

4. Try to draw a diagram representing their relationships to each other.

REFLECT
5. Jesus answers the expert’s question, “What must I do to inherit eternal life?” by directing attention to relationship with neighbors. What is the relation of “inherit eternal life” (relationship with God) to the parable of the Good Samaritan (relationship with our neighbor)?

6. Relate this passage (Luke 10:25-37) to this insights found in I John 4:7-12 and Deuteronomy 6:4-5.

7. Create your own modern parable of The Good Samaritan and share it with your small group:

“A man was going down from [ ] to [ ], when he fell into the hands of (“robbers”) [ ]. They [ ] (“stripped him of this clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead”). A (“priest”) happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw them an, he (“walked by on the other side”[ ]. So too, a (“Levite”) [ ] when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a (“Samaritan”) [ ], as he traveled, cam to where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. He went to him and (“bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, took him to an inn and took care of him.”)

The next day he took out (“two silver coins”) [ ] and (“gave them to the innkeeper”[ ]. “look after him”, he said, “and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.”

Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers? The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.” Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”

8. How has Jesus shown Himself to be the Good Samaritan to you?

ACT
9. What is your next step in following Jesus?

10. Who could you help take their next step in following Jesus?
